Abstract

The production of eggplants on the national scale increases yearly, but eggplant
production in Indonesia is still low. One of the factors causing low productivity in
eggplant cultivation is pest infestation. The tobacco cutworm (Spodoptera litura) is
one of the pests that attack eggplants. This pest causes leaves and fruits to have
holes,which can decrease productivity and even crop failure. Botanical pesticides
are considered a more environmentally friendly alternative compared to synthetic
pesticides. This research uses a botanical pesticide made from Bintaro leaves to
determine the effectiveness of Bintaro leaf extract in controlling tobacco
cutworms.The study was conducted from June to September 2023 in the
experimental garden of the Faculty of Agriculture and Fisheries, Universitas
Muhammadiyah Purwokerto. The experimental design used a completely
randomized design (CRD) with a single factor and 6 treatment levels, namely: P0
(control), P1 (Bintaro leaf extract 10ml/L), P2 (Bintaro leaf extract 20ml/L), P3
(Bintaro leaf extract 30ml/L), P4 (Bintaro leaf extract 40ml/L), and P5 (Chemical
insecticide with chlorpyrifos as the active ingredient), repeated 4 times. The results
showed that the treatment with P4 (Bintaro leaf extract 40ml/L) could kill the
worms by 73.75% and significantly reduce pest damage intensity to 13.12%, lower
than the control and other treatments. It did not show a significant difference
compared to the chemical insecticide with chlorpyrifos as the active ingredient.
