Abstract

This research describes the implementation of project-based learning in teaching narrative text. It analyzes teachers' challenges in implementing projectbased learning in teaching narrative text at one of the vocational schools in Purwokerto. This study aims to (1) find out how teachers implement project-based learning in teaching narrative text and (2) identify challenges encountered by teachers in the implementation of project-based learning in teaching narrative text. The research applied the descriptive qualitative method. The number of participants in this study was two English teachers. The result showed that the teacher implemented project-based learning. In the research findings, the researcher found the teacher implementing project-based learning by 1) starting with the essential questions, the teacher began learning with the question that was relevant to students' issues, 2) designing a plan for the project because of the limitation of time teacher skipped this step, 3) monitoring the students and the project's progress, in this phase the teacher tried to solve students problem during do the project, 4) evaluate the outcome, after the students present their group project teacher and the other students give feedback related their work. 5) evaluate the experience: The teacher closed the learning activity by asking about the students' experience after doing the project. Secondly, this research found barriers to implementing project-based learning: Students need more vocabulary, understanding of teachers' explanations, lack of school facilities, group of students, and teacher's lack of creativity and innovation.
