Abstract
Background: Acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammation disease with many clinical manifestations on the skin. It can be triggered by puberty, hormonal, psychological stress. It can affect hyperpigmentation post-inflammatory lessons that affect the quality of life and decrease in self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and reduce the quality of life even on severe acne can be risked on suicide. Aim: To determine the correlation between the severity of acne vulgaris with an incident of depression among students in the faculty of medicine Muhammadiyah Purwokerto University. Method: This type of research uses primary data from questioner Beck Depression Inventory and Global Acne Grading System. This quantitative non-experimental and analytic correlative design study with a cross-sectional approach. The statistical test in this study use the chi-square test. Result: Bivariate analysis showed that there were 82 respondents with the severity of acne vulgaris is mild as many as 60 respondents from total respondents that not depressed, 13 respondents with the severity of acne vulgaris moderate and severe are depressed. P-value is obtained <0,001 (p<0,05) which indicates that H1 is accepted. Conclusion: There is a correlation between the severity of acne vulgaris with an incident of depression among students in the faculty of medicine Muhammadiyah Purwokerto University.
