Abstract

There is no perfect crime, because people that moves will leave traces. The
perpetrator of the crime unwittingly leaves physical evidence as the traces by the
palm of their hand at the crime scene, physical evidence left behind is
fingerprints. This study aimed to determine the application of fingerprints usage in
determining the perpetrators of theft crimes at Banyumas Police Station. The
research method used was empirical juridical The data comes from interviews and
direct observation to sources at Banyumas Police Station. The results showed that
the application of the use of fingerprints in determining the perpetrators of
criminal acts in the Banyumas Police jurisdiction through several methods,
namely which was finding fingerprints at the crime scene, comparing the
fingerprints, and making fingerprints comparison report. Regarding the evidence
listed in Article 184 of the Criminal Procedure Code that fingerprint evidence was
classified as expert testimony evidence and letter evidence. Inhibitory factors for
the police in revealing the perpetrators of the criminal acts were law enforcement
factors, facility factors, community factors, dan weather factors.
