Abstract
This research aims to analyze how woman’s images represented in The Call (2013) movie through the character of Jordan Turner using semiotic theory from John Fiske. This research uses semiotic theory from John Fiske as the grand theory and cinematography as the supporting one. This research is qualitative. The primary data of this research is taken from The Call (2013) movie directed by Brad Anderson. Meanwhile, the secondary data is taken from articles, books, and other sources about woman ’s images in a movie, semiotic theory of John Fiske, and cinematography. The method of collecting data used in this research is purposive sampling method. The data analysis is classified into three contexts, namely social context, narrative context, and movie genre context. The results of this research show that the woman’s images displayed by the character of Jordan Turner in the social context through her roles as a 911 operator and as a trainer of 911 operators are professional, responsible, and competent. Meanwhile, the woman’s image displayed by the character of Jordan Turner in the narrative context through her contribution to the development of the story plot represented from the scenes that show Jordan Turner takes over the call and handles a kidnaped caller girl is responsive. On the other hand, the woman’s images displayed by the character of Jordan Turner in the movie genre context according to the woman’s images in thriller movies represented from the scenes that show Jordan Turner hits the kidnaper and kicks him are brave and strong.
