Abstract

This study aims to enhance the science process skills of 8A students at SMPN 2 Jatilawang through the Predict-Observe-Explain (POE) learning model and to determine the improvement in science process skills aspects after implementing the POE model. The research is a classroom action research that conducted in two cycles. The subjects of this study were 36 students from class 8A of SMPN 2 Jatilawang in the academic year 2022/2023. The research instruments consisted of KPS observation sheets, KPS tests, questionnaires, and interviews. Data analysis was done using percentage techniques, and data was collected through data triangulation. The result of research concluded that score of science process skills in the pre-cycle was 43.09% with the category of very low competency, and improved to 50.36% in fisrt cycle (also in low) and then further increased to 63.65% in second cycle (with the category of sufficient competency). The average student response in learning process was 77.35% with a positive response. The aspects of science process skills that showed improvement were observation, prediction, and communication. This indicates that the POE (Predict-Observe-Explain) learning model can enhance the basic science process skills of 8A students at SMPN 2 Jatilawang, with significant improvement in observation, prediction, and communication skills.
