Abstract
This research aims to describe the types of naming and the meanings behind the names of bakso (meatball) and mi ayam (chicken noodles) food stalls in the South Pemalang region. The research methodology encompasses the type of research, data, data sources, and research stages. This study employs a qualitative descriptive research design. The data for this research consist of the names of bakso and mi ayam food stalls in the South Pemalang region. The research data sources include Randudongkal, Belik, Pulosari, Moga, and Warungpring in the South Pemalang region. The research stages include data collection, data analysis, and presentation of the analysis results. Data collection is conducted using an observation method with the Uninvolved Conversation Observation Technique (SBLC). The underlying technique involves tapping, followed by recording and noting.
Researchers observe the signboards of bakso and mi ayam food stalls, take photographs, and then record the names of these stalls. Data analysis employs comparative and contextual methods. The presentation of analysis results uses an informal method. Based on the discussion in the previous chapter, the researcher concludes that the naming types for Bakso and Mi Ayam food stalls in the South Pemalang region exhibit various diversity. The naming types for bakso stalls include imitation of sound (1 data), unique physical traits (7 data), distinctive characteristics (1 data), owner/creator (10 data), place of origin (4 data), ingredients (0 data), abbreviation (1 data), truncation (0 data), puns (0 data), gender (9 data for males and 0 data for females), aspirations (8 data), aesthetic goals (5 data). The naming types for mi ayam stalls include imitation of sound (0 data), unique physical traits (2 data), distinctive characteristics (0 data), owner/creator (8 data), place of origin (4 data), ingredients (0 data), abbreviation (1 data), truncation (1 data), puns (0 data), gender (3 data for males and 3 data for females), aspirations (data), aesthetic goals (2 data). Most Bakso and Mi Ayam food stall owners in the South Pemalang region use their names for naming the stalls, with 10 data for bakso stalls and 8 data for mi ayam stalls, aiming to make the owner's name more recognizable. The meaning of the names for Bakso and Mi Ayam food stalls in the South Pemalang region is diverse. Seven types of meaning for bakso stall names are found: lexical meaning (4 data), figurative meaning (2 data), grammatical meaning (3 data), associative meaning (5 data), referential meaning (2 data), connotative meaning (3 data), denotative meaning (6 data). Seven types of meaning for mi ayam stall names are found: lexical meaning (5 data), figurative meaning (1 data), grammatical meaning (1 data), associative meaning (4 data), referential meaning (2 data), connotative meaning (3 data), denotative meaning (1 data). The naming process serves the purpose of conveying specific meanings through the names. Lexical and associative meanings are frequently used by bakso stall owners, with 4 data for lexical meaning and 5 for associative meaning. A complex naming process facilitates easy recall and association with the environment.
