Abstract

This research aims to explore the history and establishment of
Muhammadiyah in the District of Cimanggu, Cilacap Regency, as well as the
development of Charitable Enterprises of Muhammadiyah in the District of
Cimanggu from 2010 to 2022. Based on the research problem and objectives, this
study is conducted using a historical method, which involves analyzing events that
occurred in the past. The stages of the research using the historical method are as
follows: 1. Heuristic (the stage of searching for and collecting sources), 2. Critique,
which is divided into external criticism (critique from outside/authenticity of
sources) and internal criticism (critique related to the credibility and reliability of
sources), 3. Interpretation, which involves interpreting and arranging data; and 4.
Historiography, which is the stage of writing history.
This research reveals that Muhammadiyah emerged with the establishment of its
first social enterprise in the field of education, namely SMP Muhammadiyah
Cimanggu. In 1960, the local branch (ranting) of Muhammadiyah in Cimanggu was
established. The growth of Muhammadiyah's local branch continued, leading to the
establishment of the Cimanggu Branch of Muhammadiyah in 1970. The
development of Charitable Enterprises of Muhammadiyah in Cimanggu,
particularly in education, progressed rapidly. There are six schools and one Islamic
boarding school (pondok pesantren) managed by the Cimanggu Branch of
Muhammadiyah. In the economic sector, there is BMT/KSPPS Annur Khoiru
Ummah, and in community welfare, there is Lazizmu. The development of
Muhammadiyah and Muhammadiyah's charitable efforts in Cimanggu also have
obstacles and problem-solving solutions. Politics hinders the development of
Muhammadiyah Cimanggu so that it needs to be strengthened ideologization and
charity business needs to be equipped with facilities and infrastructure. The
existence of the Covid-19 virus has hampered the work program of the
Muhammadiyah Branch Leaders and their business charities so that after Covid-
19 it is necessary to restore the work programs of the Muhammadiyah Branch
Leaders and their business charities.
