This study aims to analyze the social values in the novel Promise
by Tere Liye. The research method used in this research is
descriptive qualitative research. The data source for this research
is Tere Liye's novel entitled Janji, which will be published in 2021.
The data collection technique for this research uses literature
study, documentation and note-taking techniques. This study uses
structural analysis of Robert Stanton's theory and social value
analysis of Zubaedi's theory. In this research, it was found that
there is a structure in Janji novel, namely story facts consisting of
plot, characters, and setting; theme; and literary means consisting
of title, point of view, style and tone, symbolism, and irony. The
results of the analysis of social values found are the values of
affection which consist of devotion, helping, kinship, loyalty, and
caring; the values of responsibility which consist of the values of
belonging, discipline, and empathy; and the values of harmony in
life consist of the values of justice, tolerance, cooperation, and
democracy.
