Bioplastics are plastics that can be biodegraded by microorganisms. Bioplastics can be made from natural materials such as sodium alginate, which is a polysaccharide obtained from seaweed. However, bioplastics from sodium alginate have poor mechanical properties compared to conventional plastics. Therefore, this study aims to improve the mechanical properties of bioplastics from sodium alginate by adding graphene oxide (GO) as filler. GO is a carbon-based material that has conductive, biocompatible, and easy to synthesise properties. This research uses an experimental method with variations in the concentration of 5 gram alginate and GO 0%, 0,025%, 0,05%, 0,075%, 0,1%, dan 0,125%. Bioplastics were made by blending method and dried at room temperature for 1-2 days. The bioplastics were then tested for tensile strength, water resistance, and biodegradability properties. The results showed that the addition of GO increased the tensile strength, water resistance, and biodegradability values of bioplastics from alginate. The highest tensile strength value was obtained at 0,125% GO concentration of 6.25 MPa. The highest water resistance value was obtained at a GO concentration of 0,125%, which was 42.56%. The highest biodegradability value was obtained at a GO concentration of 0,125%, which was 33.34% at the 4th hour. This is due to the good interface interaction between sodium alginate and GO, as well as an increase in the hydrophilic nature of bioplastics. This study proves that GO can be used as a filler to improve the bioplastic properties of sodium alginate
