Abstract

Greywater is a liquid waste generated from household activities, consisting of wastewater from laundry, kitchen, and bathroom. Greywater waste accounts for the largest portion, approximately 70%-75%, of household waste production, which can result in water contamination. It is necessary to treat or filter greywater through a filtration process using silica sand as the medium. The objective of this research is to analyze the quality of greywater before and after filtration, using parameters such as pH, COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand), BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand), TSS (Total Suspended Solids), TDS (Total Dissolved Solids), and Ammonia. The filtration method aims to remove colloidal particles in the water. The results show that the quality of greywater before and after the filtration process indicates that the observed wastewater quality in this study meets the domestic wastewater quality standards, except for COD and Ammonia levels, which remain high. This indicates that the treated wastewater is not suitable for human health. Based on the comparison between the results before and after the filtration process, it is found that the pH, COD, BOD, TSS, TDS, and Ammonia parameters in laundry water, kitchen wastewater, and bathroom wastewater are still not effectively reduced. Although there is a decrease in values, they still remain within the same level as the permitted standard limits. However, the COD and Ammonia levels indicate that the filtration process does not yet meet the standards for domestic wastewater.
