Abstract

Biodegradable foam is an alternative packaging that is environmentally friendly as a substitute for styrofoam. This research aims to create and characterize the physical properties of biofoam made from Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC) and kepok banana peel starch. Physical characterization of biodegradable foam was carried out by measuring parameters, tensile strength (tensile strength), water absorption resistance, and degradability. This material has demonstrated good degradability and can hold promise for eco-friendly packaging and other sustainable applications. This test aims to understand the mechanical properties and degradation capabilities of biofoam, which will determine its potential as a substitute for styrofoam. The results showed that the addition of CMC significantly increased the mechanical properties of biofoam, making it suitable for application in the manufacture of biofoam. Morphological analysis revealed that CMC tissue can be dispersed well in the biofoam matrix. Based on the research results obtained, it can be concluded that the physical properties of biofoam, such as tensile strength (tensile strength) and water absorption have values close to Styrofoam. The characteristics of biofoam are influenced by the properties of raw materials and process conditions. The addition of CMC can increase the tensile strength of biofoam. production of biofoam with the composition of kepok banana peel starch varied 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90% and CMC variations
90%, 80%, 70%, 60% , 50%, 40%, 30%, 20%, 10%. Besides that, biofoam from CMC and banana peels can be decomposed by microorganisms present in EM4 solution (effective microorganisms 4) within 7 days
