Abstract
Bioplastic is an alternative material to replace conventional plastic packaging so as not to pollute the environment. Bioplastics are made with natural polymers as the main ingredient, so microorganisms easily digest them. Utilization of durian seed starch as the main ingredient for making bioplastics. Adding fillers can increase the rigidity of too flexible plastics, increase strength, and reduce solubility and tendency to bend. The production of bioplastics used the blending method and was dried at 50°C for seven days. The main bioplastic ingredients used are durian seed starch and glycerol as a plasticizer. And the addition of variations in each Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC) concentration (0%, 0.3%, 0.5%, 0.7%, 0.9% and
1.1%) and bentonite concentration (0%, 0, 3%, 0.6%, 0.9%, 1.2% and 1.5%). Characterization of bioplastics was carried out by tensile test, elongation test and biodegradable test. The results showed that the tensile strength value with variations in CMC concentration was obtained from 0.046 MPa to 1.75 MPa. The best value was obtained at 0.7% concentration, the elongation value was 0.56% to 71.69%, and the best elongation value was obtained at 0.7% concentration. The biodegradable test obtained the best value of per cent loss at 1.1% concentration with a weight loss percentage of 81.82% for a week. And the results of the tensile strength values with the addition of bentonite concentration variations were 0.04 MPa to 0.26 MPa, the best value was at 1.5% concentration. And the elongation value was 0.57% - 32.90% and best value at 0.9% concentration. The biodegradable test obtained the best percentage loss value at 1.5% concentration with a weight loss percentage of 91.38% for a week.
