Abstract
This descriptive qualitative research aimed to describe Representative
Illocutionary Speech Acts in the October 2022 Edition of Suara Merdeka Online
Newspaper Education Rubric, whose results depict society's speeches on
Indonesian education. The data from this study were all utterances in Suara
Merdeka Online Newspaper which contain representative speech acts. The data
source in this study was the October 2022 edition of Suara Merdeka Online
Newspaper in the education rubric. The technique of providing data used the
Observational nonparticipatory method (SBLC) technique and the noting
technique using data tables. The data analysis technique used by researchers was
the distributional and equivalent methods. Then the technique of presenting the
results of the data used in this study was a description in the form of a sentence
using an informal presentation method. The results showed that there were 55 data
containing representative speech acts divided into nine types of representative
speech acts; 11 data of stating, 12 data of informing, 7 data of suggesting, 2 data
of boasting, 2 data of complaining, 2 data of demanding, 2 data of reporting, 10
data of explaining, and 6 data of showing. These results show that the speech
participants in the newspaper use more representative utterances that intend to say
something to the speech partners because, in newspapers, the information
published more often uses utterances to inform something to the reading public.
