Abstract

Unpleasant issues regarding Islamic religious education, such as the
emphasis on memorization without practicing the values that actually exist in
Islam. Islamic religious education places more emphasis on the formal
relationship between humans and their God, while the appreciation of religious
values is still given less emphasis and receives little criticism in Islamic religious
education. In addition, the teacher's lack of attention to new innovations in
learning models in order to increase student learning motivation. The purpose of
this research is to increase students' learning motivation by using snowball
throwing type of cooperative learning.
This research is a class action research (CAR). The research process
involves the following steps: planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting.
The subjects of this study were class VIII students at SMP Muhammadiyah
Sokaraja Banyumas. Data collection techniques are observation, interviews,
questionnaires and documentation. Data analysis was carried out through
observation and interviews.
The snowball throwing type of cooperative learning model has proven to
be effective in increasing learning motivation in the faith subject in the faith
chapter for the final day of class VIII students at SMP Muhammadiyah Sokaraja
in the 2022/2023 academic year. Initially, learning was carried out using the
lecture method, learning was not yet effective, taken from the results of interviews
and also direct observation of teachers and students. then after the implementation
of the research there was a very satisfactory increase in accordance with the
expectations of researchers, namely:
1. Students are able to follow the lesson and understand the material well.
2. Students are able to do assignments and complete the questions given.
3. Students are able to present the material provided by the teacher properly.
4. The success of students in obtaining good academic achievement at school
and in society
