Abstract

This research aims to identify the types, forms, and factors that cause code-mixing
in the speech of Jang Hansol in the Eight Vlog Content on the YouTube channel
"Korea Reomit" during the October 2022 period. The study adopted a qualitative
descriptive approach. The data consisted of the speeches of Jang Hansol that
included instances of code-mixing in the eight YouTube vlogs from the "Korea
Reomit" channel during the specified period. The data collection method involved
observing and recording Jang Hansol's speech, utilizing techniques such as basic
note-taking, followed by advanced techniques such as uninvolved observation and
note-taking. The data analysis employed comparative and distributive methods,
while the data presentation approach used an informal style. Based on the
research findings, a total of 75 instances of code-mixing were identified,
categorized as follows: a. Types of code-mixing include (1) code-mixing to an
external language (35 instances); (2) code-mixing to an internal language (38
instances); and (3) mixed code-mixing (2 instances). Furthermore, b. Forms of
code-mixing encompass (1) code-mixing at the word level (64 data); (2) codemixing
at the phrase level (8 data); and (3) code-mixing at the clause level (3
data). Lastly, c. Factors contributing to code-mixing include (1) limitations in
language use (4 data); (2) usage of more popular terms (27 data); (3) the
speaker's identity and personal experiences (24 data); (4) conversational partners
(15 data); (5) context of place and time (1 datum); (6) functions and purposes (3
data); and (7) for prestige reasons (1 datum). This research demonstrates that the
Eight Vlog Contents on the "Korea Reomit" YouTube channel during the October
2022 period feature various types, forms, and factors contributing to code-mixing.
