Abstract

The currents of globalization bring along negative cultures, thoughts, and liberal understandings that diminish the values of social order and even introduce new views within society, such as rationalism, secularism, pragmatism, and others. The influence of globalization possibly can lead to moral degradation, laziness in religious learning, and even issues and deviations in the Islamic creed (aqidah) among the youth in Indonesia. Education in aqidah is necessary as it serves as the foundation of the teachings of Islam. The values of aqidah can be studied through both formal and non-formal education using various methods. One of these methods is by emulating the scholarly tradition of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), which involves learning and teaching through the works of classical and medieval scholars, even though this tradition is less popular among modernists. This research aimed to analyze, identify, and describe the values of aqidah in one of the works of a medieval scholar, Imam Al-Ghazali, entitled "Ayyuhal Walad."
It was library research that derived its sources from Al-Ghazali's thoughts. The research data was collected from primary and secondary sources and then analyzed using both inductive and deductive techniques to arrive at findings and conclusions.
This research demonstrated that the values of aqidah that emerged in the book "Ayyuhal Walad" by Imam Al-Ghazali included Ilahiyat (Divinity),Nubuwat (Prophethood),Ruhaniyat (Spirituality), and Samiyat (Hereafter). The value of Ilahiyat encompassestauhid rububiyah/the oneness of Lordship (faith in the divine decree),tauhid uluhiyah/the oneness of worship (sincerity, reliance on God, prohibition of showing off, and supplication), and tauhid asma wa sifat/the oneness of names and attributes (the beautiful honorifics of Allah). The value of Nubuwat includes faith in the prophets and the books of Allah. The value of Ruhaniyat includes faith in angels and unseen creatures. Meanwhile, the value of Samiyat encompasses belief in the Day of Judgment (Day of recompense, Day of gathering, paradise, and hell).
