Abstract
This research aimed to describe the types of expressive speech acts performed by
teachers during teaching at SDN 2 Tegalpingen, Pengadegan District, Purbalingga
Regency, and to observe the functions of expressive speech acts in teaching at the
mentioned school. This qualitative research utilized a descriptive method. The data
for this study consisted of teacher utterances containing expressive speech acts
during teaching in classes I and VI at SDN 2 Tegalpingen. The data sources
involved three teachers: Hesti Rohmawati, S.Pd. (grade I teacher), Trisnawati,
S.Pd. (Islamic Studies teacher for grade I and IV), and Anggit Purwanto, M.Pd.
(grade VI teacher), who were conducting teaching processes at SDN 2 Tegalpingen,
Pengadegan District, Purbalingga Regency. The research process included three
stages: data collection, data analysis, and data presentation. Data collection
techniques encompassed observation, recording, and note-taking. Data analysis
involved distributional analysis, matching analysis, and contextual analysis. The
distributional analysis employed the basic technique of direct constituent analysis
(DCA) and the advanced tag reading technique. The matching analysis employed
the basic technique of isolating pivot constituents (IPC) with the advanced
technique of comparing and equating (C/E). Data presentation is carried out
informally. The research findings and discussions revealed that expressive speech
acts performed by teachers during teaching at SDN 2 Tegalpingen, Pengadegan
District, Purbalingga Regency, in grades I and VI included 72 instances of direct
speech acts and nine instances of indirect speech acts. The functions of expressive
speech acts in teaching encompass 27 instances of praise, ten instances of
greetings, ten instances of gratitude, one instance of expressing hope for happiness,
five instances of refusal, 10 instances of seeking help, and 18 instances of criticism.
However, the research did not find functions such as apologizing, expressing
condolences, and accepting.
