Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the interaction between types and dosages of
biochar on the agronomic characteristics of asparagus bean plants (Vigna sinensis
L). The research was conducted from September to November 2022 in a field in
Lambur Village, Mrebet District, Purbalingga Regency. A Randomized Complete
Block Design (RCBD) with a factorial 80 cm X 40 cm arrangement comprised 16
plots. The first factor was the type of biochar raw material, including asparagus
bean seeds, rice husks, weighing scales, hoes, and shovels. The second factor was
the biochar dosage: 0; 5; 10; 15; tons/hectare. Parameters analyzed included plant
height, leaf count, flower bud count, pod weight, pod count, and pod length. The
findings indicated that: (1) The application of biochar on plant height from 7 days
after planting to 28 days after planting did not significantly influence the
agronomic characteristics of asparagus bean plants (Vigna sinensis L). (2) Biochar
application on leaf count 14 days after planting, 21 days after planting, and 28
days after planting did not significantly affect the agronomic characteristics of
asparagus bean plants (Vigna sinensis L). (3) Biochar application did not
significantly affect pod length's agronomic characteristics of asparagus bean
plants (Vigna sinensis L). (4) Biochar application did not significantly affect the
pod count's agronomic characteristics of asparagus bean plants (Vigna sinensis L).
(5) Biochar application on leaf count seven days after planting significantly
affected the agronomic characteristics of asparagus bean plants (Vigna sinensis
L). (6) Biochar application on pod weight during the 2nd and 3rd harvests
significantly affected the agronomic characteristics of asparagus bean plants
(Vigna sinensis L).
