Abstract

The importance of education in social life causes many parents to be selective in choosing education for their children. The education chosen by parents certainly hopes for the quality of education received so that the character of their children is perfectly formed. The desired character is one that has good morals. Education in madrasahs is very full of religious lessons, both in theory and practice, thus making madrasahs an alternative education in the midst of the collapse of religious values and norms in society. Babakan village has two Muhammadiyah Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) and one elementary school, namely MI Muhammadiyah 1 Babakan, MI Muhammadiyah 2 Babakan and SD Negeri 1 Babakan, where of the three schools the public interest in choosing a school for their children is quite high to MI Muhammadiyah 2 Babakan. The purpose of this study was to determine the motivation of parents to send their children to MI Muhammadiyah 2 Babakan Purbalingga.
This research is a type of field research with data collection techniques of observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis uses an inductive analysis model from the results of observations and interviews, where the collected data will be analyzed qualitatively using descriptive methods, namely describing the description of the data obtained and connecting one to another to get a general conclusion.
The results of this study indicate that the motivation of parents to send their children to MIM 2 Babakan is the intrinsic motivation of the need for religious knowledge and affordable education costs and the hope that children have the provision of religious knowledge for their lives, and extrinsic motivation is the strategic school environment close to home and the habituation of worship and discipline applied at school, interesting extracurricular activities, children's desires, adequate facilities and infrastructure, friendly teachers, achievements achieved by schools in various competitions.
