Abstract
Persatuan Perjuangan was the largest opposition group against the central
government. The emergence of thisopposition group was marked by disputes
regarding how the Indonesian independence revolution should becarried out, either
through diplomatic revolution or total confrontation and mass action. Tan Malaka
founded Persatuan Perjuangan in Purwokerto on January 45, 1946. Tan Malaka
played a significant role in the establishment ofthis opposition group. Therefore, this
research aims to reveal Tan Malaka's role in the first Congress of the group. The
theory employed in this research is the theory of political anthropology, using a
functionalistapproach. This research was conducted using a historical research
method consisting of (1) a topic selection, (2) source collection, (3) verification
(external and internal criticism), (4) interpretation (analysis and synthesis), and(5)
historiography (writing). The results of this research are as follows. Firstly, the
background of the first congress of the group held in Purwokerto in 1946 was
influenced by three factors: the disagreement between TanMalaka and Sutan
Sjahrir, the situation in Purwokerto during the early days of independence, and the
politicalmovement in Banyumas. Secondly, Tan Malaka's role in the first congress of
the movement in Purwokerto inearly 1946 consisted of his participation in the
congress, the position of Tan Malaka (opposition), and the government (axis), and
the position of General Soedirman as the Supreme Commander of the Army. Thirdly,
the continuation of Persatuan Perjuangan after the first congress in Purwokerto in
1946 included the second and third congresses in Surakarta, the fourth congress in
Madiun, the abduction of Persatuan Perjuanganfigures, and the birth of Konsentrasi
Nasional.
