This research is a historical research that aims to find out the history and
development of Muhammadiyah in Bantarkawung District, Brebes Regency. The
aim of this research is to study the history of local or regional Muhammadiyah
which is able to broaden the horizons of knowledge. The historical method is the
method used in this study through the stages of analyzing events that occurred in
the past. The stages carried out in carrying out this historical research include: 1)
Heuristics, namely the process of collecting historical data or sources, 2)
verification, critiquing data with external criticism and internal criticism, 3)
Interpretation, namely interpreting the results of criticism from the perspective of
researchers objectively and 4) Historiography, namely, the writing of the results
of the interpretation of researchers compiled into a historical text.
The research entitled Dynamics of Muhammadiyah in Bantarkawung
District succeeded in revealing the existence of Muhammadiyah in Bantarkawung
which had existed since 1962, starting with establishing a Buaran Branch of
Muhammadiyah in Pangebatan village. Expansion of Muhammadiyah to various
Bantarkawung areas required the establishment of the Bantarkawung
Muhammadiyah Branch in 1970. The spread reached various villages in the
Bantarkawung sub-district such as Jetak, Jipang, Bangbayang, Kebandungan,
Karangpari and dukuh Mayana Terlaya village. However, in quantity
Muhammadiyah became an organization minorities in almost all of Bantarkawung
District, the majority of whom are Nahdiyin residents. This is due to the delivery
of Muhammadiyah da'wah which still covers the family sphere. Significant
progress began to be seen since a preacher joined the Muhammadiyah
Association. His presence was highly respected by all circles of society which
made Muhammadiyah increasingly widely known. In the course of the
development of the dynamics of Muhammadiyah, it has changed, especially in the
condition of branch officials to branches and even members of Muhammadiyah.
Stagnant conditions, setbacks and progress as well as the relationship between
Muhammadiyah and Nahdatul Ulama between tension and harmony color the
dynamics of Muhammadiyah in Bantarkawung.
