Abstract
This research aims to identify the usage of reference types based on contextual references and grammatical cohesion in the news articles of Banjarnegaraku.com in November 2022. The data source for this study consisted of 23 news articles published on Banjarnegaraku.com in November 2022 using sentences as the data. The research design was qualitative and descriptive, employing reading and note-taking techniques. Based on the research findings, the researcher discovered the usage of references based on contextual references and grammatical cohesion in the news articles of Banjarnegaraku.com for November 2022. The references based on contextual references include exophoric and endophoric references (anaphora and cataphora) and references based on grammatical cohesion, such as personal, demonstrative, and comparative references. In terms of exophoric references, there were 421 instances, 313 endophoric references (anaphora), and 89 endophoric references (cataphora). Meanwhile, there were 306 instances of personal references, 384 instances of demonstrative references, and 41 instances of comparative references. Among the personal references identified by the researcher are words like 'I,' 'we as kami,' 'we as kita,' 'You as Saudara,' 'You as Anda,' 'He/She as Ia,' 'He/She as dia,' 'in as di-,' 'He/She as beliau,' 'her/his as -nya,' 'they,' 'each,' and 'whatever.' Demonstrative references include words like 'nowadays,' 'now,' 'current time,' 'today,' 'yesterday,' 'previously,' 'formerly,' 'tomorrow,' next,' 'upcoming,' 'weekend,' 'night,' 'here as di sini,' 'here as sini,' 'this,' 'that,' and several explicitly mentioned names. On the other hand, comparative references encompass words like 'additionally,' 'in addition to,' 'while,' 'on the other hand,' 'such as,' 'compared to,' 'whereas,' 'but,' and 'in line with.'
