This research aims to describe the types of meanings and naming methods used
for unique nicknames. The research used a qualitative descriptive approach, with
a dataset consisting of 50 unique nickname data from adolescents living in
Kotayasa Village, Sumbang District, Banyumas Regency. The data sources are
the adolescents from Kotayasa village. Data collection was carried out through
conversational techniques and interviews. Data analysis employed the dividing
key factors (PUP) and the equalizing (HBS) Techniques, using the researcher's
language. The presentation of the analyzed data was done informally. The
research findings conclude that 17 data of nicknames have denotative meanings
and 25 show connotative meanings. The naming methods can be categorized into
8 types, as follows: (1) 11 data are based on distinctive physical traits, (2) 13 are
based on distinctive character traits, (3) 4 are based on the identifier or creator,
(4) 1 is based on the place of origin, (5) 9 are based on similarities, (6) 6 are
based on abbreviations, (7) 4 are based on puns or wordplay, and finally (8) 2
are based on preferences.
