Abstract

Bran rice is a by-product of rice milling that is often utilized by the community as animal feed. In rice, the nutrient essential that is required body is found in the bran or rice bran. Rice bran oil has antioxidants that relatively high which can be used as the oil for food (edible oil), Health, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical industries. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of the volume of the acetone solvent, and extraction time. In the manufacture of rice bran oil, to determine the effect of volume of solvent and time using several variables. The variable of the volume of the solvent was 300 mL, 400 mL, 500 mL, 600 mL, and 700 mL while for the extraction time is 1 h, 2 h, 3 h, 4 h, and 5 h. The results of this study show that the volume of solvent and extraction time on the extraction process affect the yield and free fatty acids. On the volume of the solvent has the highest point, namely 400 mL of 14.54%, while the average volume of the solvent is low 300 mL of 8.25% and extraction time had the highest point i.e. 3 hours by 16,18%, while the time is low on average 1 hours of9.205%. The results obtained for the quality of the oil not meet the standard (SNI) 061 0-1989-A because there has been no process of preserving.
