Abstract

The research aims to describe the types and functions of directive speech acts between basecamp officers andclimbers at the Mount Sindoro climbing basecamp in the Sigedang route on 21-22 January 2023, 28-29 January 2023, and 4-5 February 2023. This descriptive qualitative research used speech transcriptions between basecamp officers and climbers as the data. The methods and techniques used in this study were divided into the data collection, analysis, and presentation of results stages. The first stage used the observational method, the basic tapping technique, and the Observation nonparticipatory method (SBLC). The second stage employed the identity method supported by the basic technique of dividing key factors (PUP) with an advanced technique of the same interrelational (HBS). In addition to those techniques, the mark reading technique was also applied in analyzing data. The data analysis results were presented through informal methods. Based on the results of the analysis and discussion, it was found (1) the types of directive speech acts include requestive, questions, requirements, prohibitives, permissive, and advisories, (2) functions of directive speech acts in the speeches of Basecamp officers and climbers consist of (a) requestive: to ask, pray, and invite, (b) questions: to ask and interrogate, (c) requirements: to show desiring, demand, direct, and instruct, (d) prohibitives: to prohibit, (e) permissive: to approve, allow, confer, and forgive, (f) advisories: to advise, suggest, and warn. The most dominant type and function of the directive speech act is the directive speech act of the question type with the function of asking.
