Abstract

Intensive cultivation of African catfish may decrease water quality
resulting in stressed, weak, and diverse growth of fish. Providing natural
supplements using curcuma (Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb.) and garlic (Allium
sativum L.) is considered as a solution to the problem. This study aims to
determine the effect of a combination of curcuma and garlic extract supplements
through feed-in increasing the growth of African catfish. This study used a
completely randomized design (CRD). The treatment consisted of giving a
combination of Curcuma and garlic extract supplements into the feed at a dose: P1
(curcuma 5 g +garlic 27 g) I kg of feed, P2 (10 g of curcuma+ 24 g of garlic) I kg
of feed), P3 (curcuma 15 g +garlic 21 g) I kg of feed), and PO (control), with 4
replications. The main parameters observed were weight and length gain, the
specific rate of increase (SGR), feed efficiency (EP), and feed conversion ratio
(FCR), while the supporting parameters observed included temperature and pH of
water. The data analysis used the F test followed by the DMRT test, while the
water quality data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the
addition of a combination of ginger extract and garlic supplements to the feed
significantly affected the growth in weight and length, SGR, FCR, and EP. The
optimal dose to increase growth is P2 treatment (curcuma 10 g + garlic 24 g) I kg
of feed.
