Abstract
Biodiesel is a renewable energy derived from vegetable oil or animal oil.
Biodiesel is an environmentally friendly alternative fuel. In this research, the
basic material used in making biodiesel is used cooking oil. The process of
making biodiesel used is reactive extraction, namely the process of esterification
and transesterification running continuously. The purpose of this research was to
find the optimum conditions for the process of making biodiesel from used
cooking oil using the Response Surface Methodology (RSM). This experiment was
carried out with variations in the ratio of solvent oil: methanoL 3: I; 4: I and 5: I
and reaction temperature at 50 ° C, 60 ° C and 70 ° C. The results showed that the
variation in the solvent ratio and reaction temperature had an effect on the yield
value. The highest yield obtained from this study was 11,987, which was found in
a solvent ratio of 5: 1 and a reaction temperature of 60 ° C. The characteristics of
biodiesel produced from the transesterification of used cooking oil in this
research have met SNI 04-7182-2015 standards including density, kinematic
viscosity, cetane number, flash point, pour point, 90% recovered distillation, total
acid number and Cu. Strip corrosion.
