Abstract

This study aimed to detennine the land suitability and characteristics for melon
crops in Pesisir Losari, Losari Sub-District, Brebes Regency. This study used the
survey method. The data were in the fonn of the land characteristics and quality for
melon crops. The population is the altitude of the location in Losari coastal which
covers 4 villages namely Losari Lor, Pengabean, Prapag Kidul, and Limbangan. The
sample was taken from the agricultural land in those 4 villages by taking the altitude
of the location into account. Field survey techniques for both secondary and primary
data were nsed in the data collection. The data processing method and data suitability
analysis method used land suitability and quality assessment with growing conditions
for melon crops. The results indicated that the land suitability for melon crops in
Pesisir Losari belonged to the marginal land suitability class (S3). The land suitability
class for melon crops in this study belonged to the S3 class (Suit to Marginal). There
were inhibiting factors including drainage, C-organic, and inundation. On the other
hand, the highly suitable supporting factors were the slope, soil depth, rock outcrops,
soil pH, air temperature, and water salinity, while the fairly suitable supporting
factors were the soil texture, rainfall, and topography.
