Abstract
This study aims to find empirical evidence of the effect of liquidity,
company size and asset structure on capital structure with profitability as the
mediator. The sample used in this study is a consumer goods industry sub-sector
companies in the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) for the period 2016-2019. The
sampling technique used was purposive sampling method and obtained a sample
of 25 companies that meet the criteria. The data used in this study was obtained
from annual reports published on www.idx.co.id or each company's website. The
analysis technique used in this study is the multiple linear regression analysis.
The results showed that liquidity and firm size have a significant positive effect
on profitability, while asset structure has no significant effect on profitability.
Then, liquidity has a significant negative effect on capital structure, while firm
size, asset structure and profitability have no significant effect on capital
structure. Meanwhile, profitability cannot mediate the effect of liquidity, firm
size, and asset structure on capital structure.
