Abstract
Paddy ( Oryza sativa L.) is a plant that produces rice as the main staple
food for Indonesian people. However, rice productivity in Indonesia has not been
maximized, namely around 5.14 ton I ha which is still far from that in Australia
with 10 ton I ha. There are many factors causing the ;ack productivity of rice,
including the attack of the golden snails. The damage to rice plants caused by this
pest can reach 90%. One alternative to control this environmentally friendly is by
using natural molluscicides. Betel (Piper betle L.) is a plant that can be used as
natural molluscicide. In one of the research results, it shows that betel can be used
as a natural insecticide to eradicate rice bugs. This study aims to determine the
antimoluscal activity of betel leaf extract on mortality of gold snail. The
experimental design used in this study was a completely randomized design
(RAL) with betel leaf extract treatment (IO%, 15%,20%, and 25% concentration).
As a comparison, negative control (without treatment) and positive control
(synthetic molluscicide) were used with 3 replications. The parameter observed
was gold snail mortality. The data obtained were analyzed using the F test and
followed by the DMRT test with a trust level of 95%. The results showed that the
betel leaf extract was actually able to make gold snail died. The highest mortality
was obtained in the P4 treatment (25% concentration) which was 63.33%,
however it could not be said that this leaf was effective as a natural molluscicide.
