Abstract

This study aims to determine students' mathematical communication skills in solving problems on fractional material and the factors affecting it at SD N 2 Karangkemojing. The mixed research or mixed method was employed with the subject of teachers and students of Grade IV and the school principal. The data were collected through observation, interviews, tests, and documentation. The results indicated that mathematical communication skills in solving high questions on fractional material were good, had fulfilled the success category, and the students could master mathematical communication skills. Factors affecting students' mathematical communication skills in solving problems were three factors/obstacles: constraints on teachers and students and school infrastructure. Constraints on the teacher, namely, the teachers did not use natural or concrete objects in learning, and they did not use the proper method in explaining fractional material. In addition, most students did not like mathematics, which reduced interest in learning and made them unable to focus and be enthusiastic about receiving the material being taught. Moreover, the school did not provide learning facilities such as complete learning media to facilitate students' and teachers' learning.
