Abstract

Technological developments are increasingly advanced, one of which is the use of smartphones has become a common thing in society. Android-based smartphones are widely used as a means of daily activities, such as communication, work, education and sales. Technological developments in education can be in the form of educational media that cover many forms such as 2D and 3D which can utilize Virtual Reality technology as an educational medium for the introduction of endangered species, one of which is. This research utilizes Virtual Reality as a media to support education. With Virtual Reality, it becomes an innovation in educational media as a means of learning for students. This application can be run on a smartphone with the Android system version 5.0 (Lollipop) and this application can provide an overview to students about the introduction of virtual reality-based endangered species. This study uses the Multimedia Development Life Cycle (MDLC) method which consists of 6 stages, namely conceptualization, design, material collection, manufacturing, testing, and distribution. This application will display 3D objects about endangered species, including the Javan Rhinoceros, Komodo Dragon, Green Turtle and Cowboy Shark and the user can see directly these rare animals freely, namely with 360 degrees and see animals like in the real world. This application displays information in the form of text and sound, which has the appearance of endangered species. This application requires additional tools, namely VR box or Google cardboard to experience virtual reality. Tests carried out in this application are carried out in 2 stages, namely the Alpha Test and Beta Test stages and run smoothly on the Android system version 5.0 (Lollipop)
