Abstract

Novels that tell stories as historical events are expected to be information and
inspiration from past events that have occurred. One of them is the Beauty is a
Wound by Eka Kurniawan. This novel tells about a family living in a village marked
by various kinds of conflict, violence, and social deviation. This novel discusses
various types of social deviations that exist in society, such as sexual deviation,
violence, and crime. This study discussed about the social deviance of the main
character in Eka Kurniawan's Beauty is a Wound. This study aimed to analyze the
forms and factors of social deviation in the main character of the novel Beauty is
a Wound by Eka Kurniwan. First, to describe the forms of social deviance of the
main character in Eka Kurniawan's Beauty is a Wound. Second, to describe the
factors that cause social deviation of the main character in Eka Kurniawan's
Beauty is a Wound. The approach used in this study is a mematic approach. The
type and research method used is descriptive qualitative. The research data is in
the form of story quotes that contain aspects of social deviance and factors that
cause social deviance in the novel Beauty is a Wound by Eka Kurniawan. The
findings of this study indicate that the forms of social deviation experienced by
the main character in Eka Kurniawan's Beauty is a Wound are individual,
situational and system. The factors that cause social deviation in Eka Kurniawan's
Beauty is a Wound, namely expression of disappointment, unhealthy mental
attitude and deviant behavior due to a form of labeling.
