Abstract
This study aims to describe the types and functions of directive illocutionary speech acts in teacher utterances in Indonesian language learning for eighth-grader students of SMP Negeri 1 Sokaraja. This is a type of qualitative descriptive research. The object of this research was a teacher who teaches Indonesian subjects at SMP Negeri 1 Sokaraja. Meanwhile, the resource persons in this research were teachers who taught Indonesian subjects at SMP Negeri 1 Sokaraja. The results of research on the types and functions of directive illocutionary speech act on teacher speech in Indonesian language learning for eighth-grader students of SMP Negeri 1 Sokaraja show that the use of command directive illocutionary speech acts with the function of demanding and types of permitting with the function of allowing are the most widely used compared to the others. This can be seen from the results of the research which showed that the types of directive illocutionary speech acts of ordering, granting permission and the functions of directive illocutionary speech acts of ordering and granting permission were used by Indonesian teachers, namely speech acts of commanding illocutionary and of illocutionary speech acts of granting permission. The types of directive illocutionary acts found were directive illocutionary acts of requests, questions, orders, prohibitions, granting permission, and advice. The functions of the directive illocutionary speech act include a) types of requests with begging functions, requesting functions, praying functions, and inviting functions b) types of questions with asking functions, and interrogating functions c) orders with demanding functions, instructing functions, the function requires and requires d) prohibition with the function of prohibiting, and the function of limiting e) granting of permission with the function of approving, allowing, granting, and forgiving functions f) advice with the function of advising, and suggesting functions.
