Abstract

This research aimed to describe the moral values in Sapan Didiahfolklore by Joni Syahputra. The data source of this research was a folklore book entitled Sapan, Didiahpublished in 2016 by the Language Development and Cultivation Agency (Jakarta) with 74 pages. This descriptive qualitative research used reading and noting techniques to collect the data. Then, the data were analyzed through the stage of studying the analyzed object, summarizing the data obtained, then copied into written form for further analysis. The results showed two moral values in folklore: good and bad. The good moral values included: (1) being patient, which could be seen from the character Amakwho was always patient to face her child's behavior; (2) hardworking, which could be seen from the character Amak who always went to the fields by herself; (3) caring to each other, which could be seen from the people who set aside some paddy to help the needy; (4) forgiving, which could be seen from the character of Amakwho always thought that god would never give a test beyond our strength; and (5) appreciating, which could be seen from the character of Amakwho always said thank you to anyone helping her. Meanwhile, there were three bad moral values including: (1) being disrespectful, which could be seen from the character of Upik, who never listened to Amak; (2) lying, which could be seen from the character of Upik, who did not want to admit that Amak was her mother; and (3) being arrogant, which could be seen from the character of Upik who did not want to walk side by side with Amak because of her inappropriate look.
