This study aimed to describe spelling errors in official letters issued by SMP Negeri 2 Pengadegan in the use of letters, word writing, and the use of punctuation. This is qualitative descriptive research. The data collection method used was documentation using the reading technique. The instruments used are human instruments and data recording cards. The data analysis method used was the distributional method with deletion, paraphrasing, and substitution techniques. The technique of presenting the result was an informal technique. The results of this study included three main categories of spelling errors, namely errors in using letters, word writing, and the use of punctuation. The most common errors found were the use of letters as there were 128 errors. There were 132-word writing errors and the least punctuation errors were found, consisting of 59 errors. Errors in the use of letters including the use of capital letters, italics, and bold letters. Word writing errors include writing affixes, combinations of words, prepositions, abbreviations, and acronyms. Errors in the use of punctuation include the use of periods, commas, semicolons, colons, and hyphens.
