Abstract

Background: Foot odor is one of the problems that can be caused by excessive sweat production and involves the activity of bacterial mechanisms on the feet. Foot spray is used to overcome the problem of foot odor, but until now these products are difficult to find and tend to be uneconomical .Objective: In this study, the potential of pineapple peel as an active ingredient in foot spray preparations was carried out with the aim of knowing the compound content, total flavonoid compound content, stability of the physical properties of the foot spray dosage formula, the antibacterial effect of the extract and the antibacterial effect of the foot spray preparation in the ethanol extract of pineapple peel ( Ananas comosus [L.] Merr. ). Methods: The content of volatile compounds in the ethanol extract of pineapple peel and the determination of the total flavonoid content were determined using GCMS and UV-VIS spectroscopy methods, respectively. Organoleptic, pH, viscosity, cycling and irritation tests were conducted to determine the physical properties and preparation of the formula. In addition, the product preference level test was carried out on 20 panelists, using a hedonic scale of 0-5. In the antibacterial activity test, the research method used was Completely Randomized Design by dividing the test parameters into 5 groups, namely foot spray brands that have antibacterial claims as positive controls, distilled water as negative control and 3 foot spray formulas of pineapple peel ethanol extract (Ananas comosus [L.] Merr. ) with each concentration of 0.5%, 1%, and 1.5%.Results: The results of this study showed that the ethanolic extract of pineapple peel (Ananas comosus [L.] Merr. ) was able to inhibit the growth of S. aureus and S. epidermidis bacteria. Conclusion: The ability to inhibit bacteria in the ethanol extract of pineapple peel (Ananas comosus [L.] Merr. ) is due to the presence of terpenoid compounds contained in the extract.
