Abstract

Chemical laboratory liquid waste is waste in liquid form generated during the activity process in a chemical laboratory. Chemical laboratory liquid waste can be categorized as hazardous and toxic waste (B3). Chemical laboratory liquid waste contains hazardous levels of heavy metals, including heavy metals Pb and Fe. The method used to reduce the levels of heavy metals Pb and Fe is the coagulant-flocculation method with the addition of tamarind seeds powders as a coagulant. The ability of tamarind seeds as a biocoagulant is due to its high protein content which can act as a natural polyelectrolyte. This study uses a variety of coagulant doses and rapid mixing. Initial analysis obtained by testing the levels of heavy metals Pb and Fe using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS), namely 14,44 mg/l and 37 mg/l.The best dose for reducing heavy metal levels of Pb and Fe is 3500 mg/l with a decrease in metal content of Pb and Fe at 250 rpm with a decrease in metal content of 10.505 mg/l and 22.8 mg/l.The content of heavy metals Pb and Fe is still above the quality standard according PERMEN LH No. 5 of 2014. The metal quality standard is Fe 5 mg/l and Pb 0.1 mg/l.
