Abstract
Background of the problem of thus research is that students as the next generation of
leadership relay must be able to have the skills to write scientific papers such as: essay,
scientific articles, papers, research proposal and theses. In writing a paper there must be a
relationship between thought and language which is a two-way relationship, namely
language affect the mind and so the mind affects language.
The Relationship between language and thought involves many factors and is very complex
(Fenigan and Besniar, 1993). Thinking activities are manifested in three acts of reasoning,
namely the act of simple understanding, the preparation of affirmation / negations and the
preparation of conclusions or relationships between sentences. Based on these thoughts, it
is necessary to study the type of reasoning at the level of writting scientific articles for
students of the Department of Environmental Health at Poltekkes Kemenkes Semarang.
The finding of various types of students reasoning in writing scientific articles later can be
used as guidance for lecturers in compiling teaching materials for Indonesian Language
subject especially on reasoning in compiling scientific papers. This study uses qualitative
research methods with qualitative descriptive types. These data can be obtained from notes,
or memos, photos and other documentation. While the data sources used sourced from
sentences or paragraphs containing reasoning points and types of paragraph sequences in
the writings of Sanitation Study Program students in the final semester in academic year
2021-2022 while the sample in this research being scientific papers of Sanitation Study
Program students Diploma III Department of Environmental Health Poltekkes Semarang
in academis year 2021 -2022 as many as 16 scientific papers in chapters I, IV and V. Based
on the results of the study, the data obtained that the samples Scientific writings that are
the object of this research are predominantly students Sanitation Study Program Diploma
III Environmental Health Department Semarang Poltekkes in academic year 2021-2022
tend to use deductive paragraph patterns in each paragraph and use deductive reasoning
types, especially categorical syllogisms and logical sequence patterns in paragraphs in their
scientific papers.
