Abstract

This study aimed to describe spelling errors based on the Indonesian Spelling System (PUEBI), including errors in writing capital letters and punctuation marks. This study was qualitative descriptive. The data were obtained from the documentation of the Indonesian Supplementary Book for grade VII in the 2019/2020 academic year published by CV Surya Grafika Mandiri in odd and even semesters. The data were in the form of error letters, words, and sentences. This study was carried out in three stages: (1) data provision by listening method, (2) data analysis by comparative method with the basic technique of dividing-key-factors (PUP) technique by dividing the writing or orthographic and advanced techniques by Equalizing Similarity Technique (HBS) and Equalizing difference Technique (HBB), and (3) data presentation by formal and informal techniques. Based on the findings, the Indonesian supplementary book for grade VII in the 2019/2020 academic year published by CV Surya Grafika Mandiri in odd and even semesters, the researcher obtained the total number of errors, the capital letter with 28 errors and punctuation with 51 errors
