Abstract
This research aims to identify the signifiers and signified, also denotative and connotative meaning of the memes that are used in Bitcoin meme.
In conducting this research, the researcher applied the method that developed by Miles et al. to describe the major phases of data analysis, which consists of data condensation, data display and drawing conclusion. The data are selected based on the scope of study which are the bitcoin memes that are posted in “bitcoinmemes” instagram in July 2021. This research displays the visual signs using Roland Barthes’ core concepts that consists of signification, denotation and connotation.
From the analysis, the researcher found that from the five data of bitcoin meme, they can be divided into the signifier and signified. The signifier and signified of bitcoin meme can be verbal text and visual. The writer also found denotative and connotative meaning. In this research the writer could find all denotative and connotative meanings containing in the bitcoin meme.
