Abstract

This study aims to investigate the perceptions of English teachers in public secondary schools towards the implementation of online learning that occurred during the pandemic and explore the advantages and disadvantages of online learning. This research is a case study with English teachers participating in public schools in the North Cilacap sub-district. The data was collected by an interview technique. The data analysis technique uses three techniques, consisting of (1) data reduction, which is selecting and sorting out which data is relevant to the research so that it can strengthen the research; (2) data display, which is designing metric rows and columns for qualitative data and determining the type and form; and (3) data verification, which is the last step where the researcher draws conclusions from the data that has been entered into the metric box. The results of this study revealed two different perceptions, namely negative and positive perceptions. Furthermore, it found some advantages and disadvantages of using online learning, which are broadly related to the use of technology, learning facilities, internet network, quotas, and learning time.
