Abstract

This study aimed to determine and identify the diversity of soil mesofauna, including individual count, diversity and dominance, and the quality of the soil environment in the ex-Gunung Tugel landfill, Kedung Randu Village, Patikraja Sub-District, Banyumas Regency in 2022. Then, purposive random sampling was used as the sampling technique. The sampling was carried out for six months, from January-June 2022. It was conducted six times with one month time interval. Specifically, it was done in the morning (06.00 08.00) and evening (18.00 to 20.00). Afterward, two research settings carried out soil sampling and soil quality measurements. Setting I and setting II were in the northern and eastern areas and the western and southern areas of the ex-Gunung Tugel landfill, respectively. The result of the sampling was identified using a microscope and referred to the book of An Introduction to the Study of Insects and the book of Ecology of Soil Animals. The individual count of soil mesofauna was 447 individuals belonging to 20 species, 18 families, and 14 orders. The highest individual count was the Isotomideae family, Isotomorus sp. species with 90 species. Meanwhile, the lowest individual count was the Cimidideae family, Chtoniidae, and Staphylinidae, with 2-4 individuals. Individual counts of soil mesofauna on the ex-Gunung Tugel landfill area were in sufficient abundance. The index value of soil mesofauna diversity was classified as moderate, ranging from 1,889 to 2,165, with an average of 2,002. Then, based on the Shannon Winner diversity index, it showed a moderate level of diversity with 1 < H > 3. The soil mesofauna dominance index was low, with a range of index values between 0.138 - 0.255 with an average of 0.185. It meant that there were no dominating species. Based on the Simpons dominantion index, it showed a low category with 0 < D < 0,5. The environmental quality of the ex-Gunung Tugel landfill had not been optimally supported for the life of the soil mesofauna.
