Abstract
Introduction: Anemia in pregnant women is still a serious health problem in Indonesia, affecting the fetus and pregnant women. The prevalence of anemia in pregnant women worldwide is 40%. One of the causes of maternal death is anemia suffered by pregnant women. Thus, we need other supplements, such as additional iron supplements in foods or drinks containing lots of iron. Every 100 grams of spinach contains 3.9 mg of iron and 80 mg of vitamin C, which can help iron absorption. Then, the iron in dates juice can supply the required RDA (Recommended Dietary Allowance), which is 6%. Methods: Experimental study of giving green spinach (Amaranthus hybridus, L.) with dates (Phoenix dactylifera, L.) juice to pregnant women with haemoglobin levels <11 g/dL, beginning with an examination of haemoglobin levels before treatment (pretest) and after treatment (posttest) in the patient. Results: The results showed that the age of the most dominant respondents was between 20-35 years, the most dominant gestational age was 13-27 weeks or the second trimester, and the most dominant gestational history is multigravida or having been pregnant more than one time, and all pregnant women have consumed blood boosting tablets or the like. In the results of the Paired T-Test, the significance value is 0.000 (p < 0.05), which indicates a significant difference between haemoglobin levels before treatment (pretest) and after treatment (posttest). Conclusion: Giving spinach with dates juice can help as a complementary therapy to increase haemoglobin levels in anaemic pregnant women at the Karangmoncol District Health Center.
