Mediation is an alternative route to settle disputes in court. Dispute resolution through mediation at the Purwokerto Religion Court is still low. Many factors hinder the success of a mediation including the selfishness of each party who does not want to lose in the case. The success of mediation depends on the performance of a mediator. The purpose of this study is to determine the mediation process and the importance of mediation in the settlement of sharia economic disputes.
This research uses field research with interview, observation, and documentation data collection techniques. The data sources used are primary data sources derived from interviews, as well as secondary data derived from previous journals, books, laws, articles, and theses. The data analysis used is inductive way, namely connecting specific facts that are already known to a general conclusion.
Based on the research conducted by the researcher, it can be concluded that from the data on sharia economic cases in 2018-2021 at the Purwokerto Religion Court, there were 18 cases and only 5 cases ended in mediation. This proves that the mediation carried out at the Purwokerto Religion Court is still largely unsuccessful. Because of the selfishness of those who do not want to budge. But the mediation process carried out at the Purwokerto Religion Court is in accordance with applicable regulations.
