Abstract

This study aims to identify and reveal the structure of the soil mesofauna community which includes individual count, diversity and dominance, and environmental quality on farming land in Pliken Village, Kembaran Sub-district, Banyumas Regency, Central Java. The method used is purposive random sampling. Sampling was carried out for six months, namely January-June 2022 six times with an interval of one month, namely in the morning (06.00-08.00) and evening (18.00-20.00). Soil sampling and soil quality measurements were carried out at three locations, namely the west (location 1), the north (location 2), and the south (location 3). The soil mesofauna that has been obtained is then identified using the book An Introduction to the Study of Insects and the book Ecology of Soil Animals. During the study, 612 soil mesofauna were obtained which belong to 26 species, 20 families, and 13 orders. The highest number of soil mesofauna individuals, namely Isotomorus tricolor, was 129 individuals, while the lowest were several species, namely Hypogastrura purpurescens, Tenebrio molitor, Amblytelus sp., Scolopendra sp., Dysdera crocata, Pseudaphis sijui, Rhopalosiphum padi, Bemisia sp., Paracoccus sp., with the number of one tail. The individual count of soil mesofauna on farming land in Pliken Village includes sufficient abundance. Soil mesofauna diversity index on agricultural land in Pliken Village ranges from 1,842.21 with an average of 2.03. Based on the Shannon Winner criteria, it shows a moderate level of diversity due to 1 < H’ < 3. Soil mesofauna dominance index on agricultural land in Pliken Village ranges from 0.13 to 0.26 with an average of 0.1. Based on the Simpsons criteria, it shows low dominance which means that there are no dominant species because D < 0,5. The environmental quality of farming land in Pliken Village, Kembaran District, Banyumas Regency in 2022 which includes air temperature, soil temperature, soil pH, moisture, and soil texture has optimally supported the life of soil mesofauna.
