Abstract

This research focuses on the sub-system Appraisal, Attitude. The researcher applied Appraisal Theory proposed by Martin and White (2005). This research aims to identify the types of attitude devices and explain how the attitude devices are realized in the dialogue transcription in the Turning Red animation movie. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method, and the primary data of this research is dialogue transcription in the animation movie Turning Red taken from Disney+ Hotstar.
As a result of this research, the researcher found three aspects of attitude: affect, judgment, and appreciation. The three aspects of attitude are found in positive and negative forms. In affect, there are 26 data found along with four types, dis/inclination, un/happiness, in/security, and dis/satisfaction. While in judgment, there were 37 data found related to social sanction and social esteem. Judgment is the most dominant part found in this study. On the other hand, in appreciation, only two types are found, reaction and valuation. The composition was not found in appreciation. The total appreciation found is only 8 data.
