This study discusses a movie entitled Deadpool 2 (2018), aiming to find out
how the movie's main character, Wade Wilson, represents an antihero quality.
The study uses the descriptive-qualitative method to obtain a deeper
understanding and explanation. The primary data source of the research is the
film consisting of dialogues and essential shots. In contrast, the secondary sources
provide information relevant to the research problem, namely articles, journals,
movie reviews, and books. The data analysis is done through the structuralism
theory supported by the antihero and cinematography principles. As a result,
Wade Wilson, as the main character, has the antihero traits identical to the
approach proposed by Abrams (1999): patty, ignominious, passive, ineffectual,
dishonest, fragile, and lonely. In addition, Wade Wilson does not carry out any
humanitarian mission but out of his love for Vanessa. Anger and vengeance for
losing Vanessa trigger him to act out of control and be an "evil" hero. In addition,
his character is naturally the opposite of a hero. A hero always manifests
largeness, dignity, power, or heroism in a commonsense, but Wade Wilson has
the opposite character. Wade Wilson uses criminal and dirty ways in every
mission, and he often shows a weakness in ability and attitude. Those
characteristics are not typical hero characteristics; that is why he is an antihero.
