Abstract

This study aimed to describe directive illocutionary acts contained in the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo’s state speech for the 74th, 75th, and, 76th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Indonesia in 2019, 2020, and 2021. This was a qualitative descriptive study in which the data were obtained from Mr. President Joko Widodo’s state speech for the 74th, 75th, and, 76th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Indonesia in 2019, 2020, and 2021. The data source in this study was Mr. Ptesident Joko Widodo’s as a non-participant primary data source. Then, the secondary data source was the videos on Youtube uploaded in August 2019, 2020, and 2021. The provision of data in this study used the observation method with the advance technique of Observation Nonparticipatory (SBLC). The analysis used both the Comparative method with the Dividing Key Factors (PUP) technique and the Distributional method with the Immediate Constituent (BUL) technique. The result of the data analysis was presented using an informal presentation method. The result of the analysis of directive illocutionary acts in President Joko Widodo’s state speech for the 74th, 75th, and 76th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Indonesia in 2019, 2020, and 2021 indicated that there were 66 utterances containing directive illocutionary acts. The 66 utterances consisted of several types, namely 9 utterances of imperative type, 5 utterances of requesting type, 21 of invitation type, 17 of critic type, and 8 of prohibitive type.
